DATES TO REMEMBER

Welcome Back, First Month Done!

It’s hard to believe that the first month of school is behind us. This is an exciting time for us all. As I walk around each classroom it’s nice to see and “hear” our new children adjusting so well. Aside from the occasional hesitation in the morning it’s wonderful to see the progression already being made.

Home Work

By now children in our casa classrooms to the elementary level have started receiving homework regularly. Remember all homework can be completed independently by the child. We use homework to keep parents involved and informed of their child’s progress. If the homework does not come back completed new homework will not be assigned. If you are doing extra work at home with your child, please consult your child’s teacher to avoid confusion and frustration for your child. If homework is not completed, please advise the teacher.

Thanksgiving

Monday October 10, 2011 is Thanksgiving and school will be closed. Our entire Brackendale staff wishes you all a safe and festive Thanksgiving. Please eat responsibly and never leave a friend alone at the dinner table

HALLOWEEN PARTY

On Monday, October 31st we will have a Halloween Party! This will be a day of games, crafts and of course Halloween Treats. All children are welcome to bring NUT-FREE treats to share with their friends. Children may come to school dressed up in their Halloween costumes. However, please bring a change of clothes for outdoor play and nap time.

ICE SKATING

Over the years the response to our skating program has been extremely positive. So for all those parents who have been asking and those that wanted to, we are proud to bring it back for the third year. Once again EDGES learn to skate program will look after our eager participants.

Stay Healthy

With the advent of cheap computer games and electronic pastimes, as well as specialized 24/7 children’s TV channels young people are more prone to a sedentary lifestyle. This can lead to being obese and bring on many health issues such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Children who start overweight will grow to be overweight adults.

Learning to skate can form good habits and be part of a healthy lifestyle. Skating is a relatively inexpensive hobby with many subsidized rinks around the country. But most importantly, it’s fun, and once kids have mastered the basics, they need little motivation to get up and go to the rink.

This program will be offered to our Casa II, III, IV and Elementary children. Forms due October 5th.

ROUTINES

We cannot stress enough the importance of routine and the effects on a child’s confidence and work ethic. When a child has an established routine and knows what is expected of them and how long they have to get a job done, it helps them to manage their time and behavior. Routines include waking up at a certain time, getting ready for school, and arriving at school punctually. Once a child has arrived at school, our teachers reinforce routines by establishing what the day holds and what is to be accomplished. Children that are late miss this benefit and worst being late starts to be an acceptable behavior. If you are late please do not interrupt the National Anthem.

Golf Lessons

We have just completed our third week of golf and the children have been having a wonderful time. It is really satisfying watching them try so hard, make improvements and have fun while doing it. They learned very quickly that it is not as easy as it looks. It takes concentration, great coordination and discipline, just to start.

This being our first year, we were a little concerned whether the children would have fun, would it be too hard, too disciplined or too structured with too many restrictions? But as mentioned the children started having fun right away, they picked up the basics really quickly and the instructors who have been teaching children for many years are doing just an unbelievable job.
